Restless...

I’m panicking, here I am back here again pouring emotions out…I’m soaking wet tears and snot all over the place. I should be over you right? I should have forgotten…but a woman’s heart is as old as time and as absorbent as a sponge there’s no way I’ll forget you now.
What did you do that for? Why in the hell are so amazing and awful at the same damn time. They say men can’t multi-task but you’ve caught up pretty fast.

Different yous in different shades of brown skin when your shirt is off lying in my bed. Damn I love you. You love me so why the hurry why can’t we just be ...elope and ride off into the sunset.
Why won’t you just stay with me?
 I love you...
I F***ing Love you!
I know you love me don’t you...when we are done making love you get up and leave but that’s only because..because you are so busy and there are places you have to be.
We don’t talk much but I can’t complain our bodies say what they need to...when we are naked

I said I would be there, that I would take you ‘in’ no matter what I was a ride or die...at this rate you would ride me till I died indeed...
When will you say you love me?

I said I would wait for you I’m patient but even this is taking too long ...maybe you didn’t hear me when I said...I love you

DJ Oil : Slicker than Oil and 'Groovier' than Austin!

Hey guys! Gosh I missed you! My life has been in weird places but never you mind let’s talk music (even if it’s late)! I had the pleasure of watching and listening to French muso, Dj Oil spin at Red Bar on Friday the 26th of April. This was courtesy of Af de Harare, a teaser for the kick a** gig that was to come during the collaborative performance during HIFA (Which I missed *bangs head into wall*).
Though I did not get to watch Oil for long I had one word to describe his mix and sound…GROOVY  Baby! Okay, okay I know those are two words but his music did sound Austin Powers groovy! That is to say it was populated by 60s funk and some killer soulful Motown sounds I didn’t even know existed! It was, just as my sister said in passing an ‘acquired taste’ however this 40 year old cool –guy can spin for my musical pallet ANY day! And from the patrons that ‘grooved’ to the beat, (Including a handful of The Monkey Nuts’ band members, Mbira diva Hope Masike and rocker Dimitri to name a few) I’m sure many more would concur. Check out my badly recorded mini clips of his set below AND check out DJ Oil’s Profile Here! #TSKC

Carl Joshua Ncube goes ‘Undercover’….Again...Again and ummm..AGAIN!!

Not Once ...
Carl Joshua Ncube, self-proclaimed as ‘Zimbabwe’s Biggest Comedian ’ is clearly living up to the title. Both his shows on the 11th and  12th of April at the Alliance Française’s Old Mutual Theatre SOLD OUT leading to a third show due to Public demand. From what I hear, the third show on Saturday Sold out too within a crazy 6 hours! Leaving Carl reeling as he proudly announced he could close to literally see the $ signs floating above each member of his audience (I had already counted).

It is clear the funny man has acquired quite the loyal following as well as wooed the skeptics not only through his comic charm but most recently through his aptitude in cookery (Carl Can Cook) as well as an ‘Indigenous’ Entrepreneur and Brand Manager (Ncube Ncube & Ncube).

Nah-Ah not Twice Either...

Not to be one to be left behind (by anything) I caught his offering on Friday night a little too late; seeing what sold out really meant as Patrons who had come in anticipation of that night’s show were turned away. A few of those whom had come a little after the starting time 1900hrs, using ‘African time’ (like I did with this post *shrug*) I presume were teeming at the entrance of the theatre which was already filled with both an anticipating audience and its laughter.
In true Carl nature the theme bobbed between low budget sex-tapes (Stunner & Pokello of course), Maneta’s questionable levels of literacy, his first ‘Mugabe Joke’, Tendai Biti’s wallet, Bev’s bottle apparatus, the dashing and slightly ‘gwash’ Agent263 and of course a whole lot of rib splitting white people jokes!

But Thrice!

In the midst of it all I noted that Carl’s better half Nelsy; while not running up and about and holding the other side of the show had a moment or two to burst out in laughter at the crazy list of shenanigans Mr Nube pulled in his act.
My most favourite part was most DEFINITELY his Albert Nyathi impersonation in ‘Senzeni Na!’, I would pay more money to watch it again, again then again and a… I’ll stop there!!
The show ended with a question and answer segment that highlighted the intimacy of the show. It was then ‘Zimbabwe’s Biggest Comedian’ spoke intellectually and more personally on the direction of his brand, his Tour; including the ‘Presidents of Laughorica’ Show towards the end of April in Malawi), his take on Comedy versus national conservativeness as well as a risible reference to his late father a (strong influence and Inspirer).
Overall an awesome 2 hours spent (5 hours if you count my hair and make-up). If you are a bit upset about missing this particular installment of the ‘Carl Joshua Ncube: Undercover’ Show; never you fear! His last hoorah is in his hometown Bulawayo on the 26th of April. I strongly suggest you get your tickets in advance though….like really! Finally if you still cannot make it there’s a little clip below that I’m sure will cheer you up! #TSKC

My thoughts on : Dutch’s ‘Live Love Dance’ Album

April the 10th was probably a regular day closer to the weekend for some BUT for the lovers, dancers and producer(s) of  AWESOME Zimbabwean music not so much! Michael Kanyama aka Dutch released his Live Love Dance album; a fusion of Hip-Hop, R&B as well as EDM to the great anticipation of many, myself included. When I finally had a listen, it was safe to say this album blew my mind which is why I HAD to share!

It kicks off with the infamous Simba Tagz  strutting his rhyming talent in the introduction, his influence and presence is truly felt and heard; featuring on nearly half of the 12 track Album in songs such as the sincere ‘Find me ’ and blunt ‘Keep it moving’. The Emperor’s speech (Intro) has a very Mr. Hahn from Linkin Park feel to it; contrasting Tagz’s rap with a very solemn deep sound, which I enjoyed.
ZiFm’s anchoress Lochnation sultrily says “Live, Love, Dance” both at the Intro and Outro a fitting welcome and send off respectively.
In a closely Dancehall beat thumping sound, 0-25 (Oliver Maboreke)   sang ‘My Baby’ and ‘Move Your Body’ with a touch of auto-tune in the right doses.

In hot pursuit Producer/Rapper FTR went on about the woes of the music industry with ‘Backstabbers’; a doloroso of the O’Jay’s  ‘Sing my heart out’ gave it a nice feel .
Not being a being a big fan of Hip-Hop, I had my first encounter with Kapital K and I liked it (wink) in ‘High’! Damn! That was a real club-banger with a Kanye West ‘Flashing-lights’  feel that made me want to get high for real! The violin in the background kept the beat together; chances are this one will be my ringtone sometime soon.

A bit of Electro dance, hits the ears as we descend the track list featuring Andre on ‘Lights’; ‘Overdose’ is a real dance banger, so awesome I need more, more, more! However I’m still not sure what a ‘Ntsiri’ is BUT the song sounded good to me though I wish there was deeper bass to it! With beats like that Dutch could give the likes of Avicci and Benny Benassi a run for their money (the African equivalent of course)!
Junior Brown, not to be left out raps about being the “Hardest Working Man in Town” (HWMIT) on another booty bouncing beat! My bet is the T-shirts are already being printed somewhere out there.
In ‘Take Off’ by T.R.K. a lot of cussing was involved BUT anyone who can make that sound cool is okay in my books!

Finally as an Outro Simba Tagz, G.O.R.E. and 0-25 had a cipher moment another fusion of Genres which left me giving a standing ovation to my laptop. Other artists that made Live Love Dance an even more stellar act were Tehn Diamond, Andre and Maximus. The album was also mixed and mastered by Showtime giants Reverb 7 and Simba Tagz.

Overall? This was a F@%#ing AWESOME album! If it was for sale I would tell you to shake your tail feather and buy one!
But since this is FREE go ahead and Download it here, and tell me what you think!
Have a listen to what Dutch had to say about the album down here

I Love My Family

This will be a relatively short and emotion filled, soggy as a damp tea dunked biscuit post.  Guys …I love my family. I know you’re thinking duh! Of course you do but you don’t get it …

I have taken a look back in time and there is one thing that is largely consistently my family… we have lost a few good soldiers on our way of course but… we have managed to dust ourselves up as we go. Chanting optimistic war-cries!
Drinking to our fill, glasses half full of empathy, sacrifice and the type of love God Himself created. Agape.
Not all are blessed with that amount of love and companionship BUT we all have some kind of family… The most important aspect is NOT to take for granted the actions and emotions experienced by those that give a damn about you.
It is always tempting to go trampling over their opinions, advice and smothering.
These people will NOT always be around.
I would take a bullet for them … YES I would! (Only if the situation demanded it OBVIOUSLY! )
Spent a little time…show you love and appreciate them because being YOUR family is free. I myself am on the road to recovery, working on treating them better and saying I Love You more often. You can come along too there’s enough room for the both of us ;-) .
